breathe out, then repair
Two routines, seven products, and a house that will tell you when you do not need the eighth.

Every percentage
Each active listed at the strength it is actually used at.
Fragrance-free
The entire range. No essential oils standing in for it either.
Seven products
We will tell you which four you need and ignore the rest.
Samples, always
Two with every order, so nothing new starts at full size.
What is in them
six actives, at the strengths on the bottle
A percentage on a product page is a claim, so here is the whole list in one place. If an active is not doing enough work to be named at a strength, it is not in the formula.
“The hardest part of formulating here was leaving things out. Every removed ingredient is one the marketing team wanted.”
2%
Hyaluronic acid
Five molecular weights, so it hydrates at more than one depth instead of sitting on top.
3%
Ceramide complex
NP, AP and EOP with cholesterol and fatty acid, in skin's own 3:1:1 ratio.
0.05%
Retinaldehyde
One conversion step from retinoic acid. Faster than retinol, gentler than tretinoin.
0.5%
Madecassoside
The isolated active from centella, rather than a whole-leaf extract of unknown strength.
2%
Niacinamide
Enough for barrier and tone. Past 5% it stops adding benefit and starts adding flushing.
3%
Carrageenan
A seaweed polysaccharide that forms the film the overnight mask works under.

The argument
ten steps is a sales model, not a routine
Four products do most of it
Cleanser, hydration, barrier, sunscreen. Everything past that is treating a specific problem, and if you do not have the problem you are paying to irritate your skin.
One new active a fortnight
Start two together and you will never know which one worked or which one caused the reaction. It is slower and it is the only way to actually learn your skin.
Finish the bottle
Most actives need six to twelve weeks. Switching at week three is the single most common reason a routine appears not to work.

from people who stopped buying things
“I had fourteen products. Soom's site talked me down to five, four of which were not theirs. I bought the barrier serum anyway because it is the only one I could not replace.”

“The retinal page told me not to use it while pregnant before I had to go looking. That is the reason I trust the rest of the percentages on this site.”

“Over-exfoliated for a year and could not work out why. Held Breath twice a day for six weeks and my face stopped stinging in the shower.”

Before you buy
how many steps you actually need
If it is not answered here, message us — a person replies, usually the same day.
Four, most of the time: cleanser, hydration, barrier, sunscreen. Add a treatment step only when you have a specific problem — texture, tone, congestion. A tenth step is not doing anything the fourth is not already doing.
Thinnest to thickest, and sunscreen always last in the morning. Inhale is cleanser, essence, barrier serum, SPF. Exhale is balm, cleanser, essence, then either the retinal or nothing.
Not on the same night. Alternate them, and stop both if skin starts stinging on application — that is a damaged barrier, and the fix is the Hold mask and two weeks of leaving it alone.
Yes, including essential oils. Fragrance is the most common cause of contact reactions in skincare, and there is no formulation reason for it beyond making a product nicer to apply.
Everything except Night Shift. Retinoids of every kind are avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about your own situation — we are a skincare house, not a clinic.
Hydration in days. Barrier repair in two to six weeks. Texture from the retinal at about six weeks, tone at three months. Anything promising faster than that is describing a moisturiser.

soom means breath. it is also the whole instruction.
